The South Auckland Health Foundation runs a knitting programme which sees hundreds of garments created by skilled and generous volunteers go where they are needed the most.
New donated garments are arranged into parcels for children up to the age of two. The parcels usually include 2 blankets, 1 wrapping blanket, a vest, six hats, six jackets, three sets of booties in three different sizes and a knitted toy.

Parcels are sent to CMDHB post natal wards, the neonatal unit and the delivery suite. More are passed on to community midwives to distribute and sent to the Botany, Papakura and Pukekohe Maternity Units. Nothing is ever wasted.
Wool of any type, amount or colour is always gratefully received, as long as its machine washable. Acrylic is welcomed too as are any new knitted clothes to fit babies from birth to two years old.
Of the 20 babies born in CMDHB everyday, four of them will be admitted to hospital in their first year of life. Providing these babies with warm clothing is one thing that can be done to help.
